Wardrobe Staples for Every Season!

Lovelies,
As January comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking about spring fashion trends! But, since I am saving up for a trip I have planned this summer, most of my work money is going into my savings account, rather than spending…when I realized I wouldn’t have much money to spend on a new spring wardrobe, I thought I had a dilemma. Then, I started looking through my closet, and realizing that honestly, there are some staples I own that can carry me through most seasons! Of course I’m not going to wear a quilted vest in the heat of July, but I can wear it spring, summer and winter if styled the right way!

I don’t have a word to define my style. Some people would say that they definitely dress like a hipster, or a prep, etc., but, I love all styles, just picking and choosing things from every style that I think suit me! So, I wrote down a list of words that I feel like most define my style. They were preppyclassicvintage and bohemian. Then, I made a list of staples that you can wear through most seasons that correlate to that personal style! Check it out based on your own style & see how you can style your clothes to carry over season after season!

Preppy Year Round Staples

Isn’t everything just SO cute!? I’m just thrilled that for the most part, everything works for any season! During all four seasons, I can honestly say I have worn my Hunter boots. In the fall & winter, I wear them with jeans, colored denim & leggings (& since I got boot liners as a Christmas present, now I wear those with my Hunters, too!). Then, in the spring and summer, I think the cutest look ever is to wear them with dresses and khaki or white shorts! My favorite look of the summer was to wear my Cardinals baseball shirt tucked in to white shorts with a belt, then with my red Hunters as the perfect finishing touch! Wearing a vest from fall all the way through spring works well, and once you get in to the spring, the vests (especially this dark blue color) look perfect with white denim & a 3/4 sleeve button down. Obviously, the accessories just all work year round, just adding to the adorable preppy look! And, finally, each of the tops can be worn tucked in or left out with boots and jeans in the fall and winter, as well as looking perfect in the spring and summer when you tuck the button down into khaki shorts with a belt, and leave the cardigan and blazer open with a top underneath with belted khakis! See! It’s so simple to get the most out of your wardrobe!

This style just screams something you would see walking the bustling downtown streets of NYC or Chicago. I love this style because it never goes out of style. It always stays around and you always bring with you an air of Audrey Hepburn, it seems! (: This is probably the most self~explanatory style because you can easily see how all of these staples can be worn into the other seasons. Wearing the cable knit sweater with denim shorts and a belt & some flats in the spring//summer, would look so perfect and classy! And obviously the great thing about scarves is that they can be worn year round, no matter what! Be sure whatever you do, to always add in at least a tiny bit of color. With the traditional black/white/nude color scheme of the timeless look, it usually adds the perfect balance to throw in a splash of red, in the shoes or jewelry normally (or just wear something Burberry!).

This is what my style is really evolving towards right now at this stage in my life. Although I really experiment around with the other styles I’m showing, I really do believe that this style is something that reflects my tastes and personality. Looking at what I’ve pictured here, I think for starters, the accessories really emphasize and add so much cute to this style! If on any given day of the year you added an extra piece to your outfit like glam vintage sunglasses, a cute hair bow or earrings, or a fabulous hat, a “wow” factor is definitely added! Oxfords are the perfect year~round shoe for capturing the vintage style perfectly (side note ~ I practically live in my oxfords from Shii which you can find here). Also, speaking on the high~waisted shorts, of course you can wear them in warm weather, but how cute would they look with the tights underneath, paired with the white cardigan shown above from H&M?! Simply adorable. Finally, every woman needs a LBD & in the vintage style category, a little lace is always the best! And my last piece of advice, peter pan collars will always help you define your vintage style!

//hair ties~Free People//Combat boots~Target//Peasant blouse~J.Crew//poncho~Ralph Lauren//
//purse~Fossil//

This style is my favorite whenever I just desire to convey an easygoing, relaxed style. Turbans are literally essential to my everyday look, & I would say that at least 3 out of 7 days of the week, I wear one of my many turbans, regardless of the season, because they can be worn with buns, braids, or hair down. A peasant blouse is almost a necessity for the boho style, and can be worn with jean shorts & gladiators in the summer weather, or it can be warmed up with leggings and combat boots in the cooler weather. Another must: ponchos! My favorite poncho is from Forever xxi & I have for a fact worn it in every season. The trick is finding one like the Ralph Lauren one pictured above that isn’t too dark for summer or too light & airy for those cold winter days. Obviously, you can wear chambray tops with anything, in any weather, at anytime, so that is a must, really, for any wardrobe, not just the one that is styled with a boho flair! And finally…the sweater. This kind of textured sweater is literally the key piece here, because not only can it be layered over the chambray, but, in the cooler months, it can be layered over the dress & worn with tights or knee-high socks! Perfect! There are so many outfit combinations here it really is limitless!

Making this post was really the most fun I have had writing a post in a very long time! There are so many choices available, and a definite direction once you narrow down what style you can really see yourself wearing the most! Happy wardrobe~building!

xoxo,
Olivia
