Hi friends, it’s been a minute. After starting my (amazing) new job as a Social Media Manager for a women’s fashion company, I took quite a long break from blogging. It honestly took me so long to get to the place where I felt like I was performing where I wanted to be with my job and still had creative energy left at the end of the day. Since all I’d known previously was the student life, it was easy to fuel my levels of creativity when my daily tasks involved attending Econ lectures and I needed a place to bring all my creativity to fruition.
Now that I live and breathe creating and planning content, I experienced a huge personal creative drain for the first time in my life. I’m so happy to announce though – I am back! The level that I missed writing was crazy, so I’m so happy to be back to a place where I want to write for myself. The past month, I’ve filled up two journals with personal writing, but I’m so glad to be back writing for myself and you all. 2018 was such a roller coaster of a year, and ultimately, it was a learning—intensive, chaotic mess that was pretty beautiful in hindsight.
Some major highlights of the year included graduating from college, starting my first “big girl” corporate job, and fueling my sense of adventure with several amazing trips. Toss in major life changes in the area of relationships and also discovering (some cases harder than others) who my true friends are…there was a lot to take in over the past months. Thankfully, of course, with so much change comes so much growth, and I am proud of the changes that I’ve made and continue to make. One aspect of this growth though was learning to understand how to accept the place I’m in – and learning how to be content in that. One of my favorite pieces of writing during this year was this:
“Do not fast forward into something you’re not ready for or allow yourself to shrink back into what’s comfortable. Growth lives in the uneasiness, that in-between, the unfinished sentence. You are a season of becoming.”
Enough of looking backwards. There are so many people who don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, and while I understand the sentiments, I for one love making resolutions. In the spirit of moving forward and always growing, here are a few of my goals both personally and professionally for 2019:
- Meet my personal financial goals for myself in 2019 (more on this to come).
- Complete the Whole30 and redefine my relationship with food. (I’m on day 20/30 as we speak – woohoo!)
- Bring my lunches to work 4/5 days a week.
- Travel to two new countries.
- Continue to work on my goal of reading 15 books that make a huge impact in my life (so far I can put about 7 books in this category).
Those are just a few that I wanted to share…more-so to put out into the universe so that I have some people other than myself to hold me accountable. For some reason it seems all the more of a commitment to put them into writing. Thank you for reading as I ease back into my creative outlet – I am so excited to begin sharing more of my world with you all again.
Much love, Olivia
